My dad and I were looking at software for laptops this morning on Dell.

We raised the question, has Frontpage been pretty much replaced by Publisher? If so, to what extent is Microsoft Publisher useful for websites? Smile

Useful? I wouldn't exactly say Publisher is useful for websites. Real developers use wordpad.

Wysiwyg's are usually not the best solution for webdesign as they have a tendency to write too much code that you don't need. The best thing would be to learn CSS and HTML spiced up with some MySQL and PHP.

Just my 2 bucks. (The inflation kicks in.)

I definitely do all community and forum work in Notepad, however the content area of my site I wouldn't mind WYSIWYG. Smile

Publisher is to web development like Excel is to Database management.

Frontpage was replaced by Expression
http://www.microsoft.com/expression/

I prefer Dreamweaver.

For web development, Do not use windows notepad, I repeat DO NOT use windows notepad. Its lack of syntax highlighting makes it difficult to understand after a few lines of code, and it will encode in ANSI, which is fine for windows, but may prove troublesome on Linux, which a website might be hosted from. I personally like Notepad++, it is easy on the eyes, and its open source.

Give this a go:
http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm

You may want to try Eclipse if you get into heavy duty web development.
